2014-15 Initiation Bike Polo Challenge of Ile-de-France

The fourth edition of the Initiation Bike Polo Challenge of Ile-de-France has been held on three legs organized by the U.S. Alfortville Cyclisme in Alfortville (Val de Marne, France) on 29 November 2014, by the E.S. Gervais-Lilas in Bobigny (Seine-St-Denis, France) on 18 January 2015 and by the Argenteuil V.S.C. 95 on 31 January 2015 in Argenteuil (Val d'Oise). The provisional rank is available here.

1st leg - 4th Alfortville Tournament (29 November 2014)

The U.S. Alfortville has organized at the Toulon stadium in Alfortville the first leg of this regional challenge dedicated to beginners in bike polo. The E.S.Gervais-Lilas came with balls, mallets and a referee, while the other referees came from the Paris C.O. and the Parisis A.C. 95. This challenge was open to beginners in bike polo from 10 years old player to adults.

An amazing number of 60 players from 9 various clubs went to play! It was the biggest number of bike polo players in a tournament in France ever!

The nine clubs were: the Argenteuil V.S.C. 95 (Val d'Oise), the A.V. Thiais (Val de Marne), the C.S.M. Clamart (Hauts-de-Seine), the C.S.M. Puteaux (Hauts-de-Seine), the E.C. Montgeron-Vigneux (Essonne), the Paris C.O. (Paris), the Parisis A.C. 95 (Val d'Oise), the U.S. Alfortville and the U.S. Créteil (Val de Marne).

After an introduction to how to use a mallet with a ball and a bicycle, 12 teams of 5 players each were divided in two groups before playing 5 minute matches:

2nd leg - 4th Kings & Queens Tournament (18 January 2015)

Snow and cold weather were planned for this fourth edition of the Kings & Queens Tournament in Bobigny. But the sun shined at the beginning of the afternoon!

The E.S. Gervais-Lilas have had the honnor to welcome Patrice Roy, Ile-de-France Committee President and French Cycling Federation General Secretary.

Nine teams of Ile-de-France coming from 6 clubs and 5 districts played this second leg of the 2014-15 Initiation Bike Polo Challenge on a grass pitch.

Players were 8 years old to seniors, all ages being mixed in the teams. With 37 players, this tournament did not suffer so much of the competition with the last leg of the regional cyclo-corss challenge.

The 9 teams were divided into 3 groups of 3 teams taking into account the rank of the Alfortville leg:

The winners of each group met each other in a 3 match final for taking the 1st to the 3rd places, then the seconds of each group for the 4th to 6th places, then the last teams for the last remaining places.

Matches were all played with two chukkers of 5 minutes each on a semi-football pitch after an initiation for the beginners.

A victory gave three points, a tie two points and a defeat one point.

3rd leg - 3rd Argenteuil Tournament (31 January 2015)

Cold weather and iced rain were not good reason for not playing this last leg of the Ile-de-France Initiation Bike Polo Challenge in Argenteuil: 9 teams from 6 various clubs were there! Even Claude Cramète, president of the Road Cycling Commission at the CIF of the FFC was there.

With 37 players in Argenteuil, this tournament did not suffer of the competition with the track cycling competition organized the same day at the INSEP.

The 9 teams were divided into 3 groups of 3 teams taking into account the rank of the Bobigny leg:
