H.M. (Sammy) Bartleet Memorial Trophy |
|
H.W. (Sammy) Barleet was the first President of the newly reformed
Bicycle Polo Association of Great Britain (B.P.A.G.B.) in 1930. Sammy Barleet
is a great name in cycling circles: his museum of cycles was
nationally known. His wisdom & enthusiasm was a large factor in the progress
of the cycle polo in those early days. At his death in 1943, a trophy was put up in
his memory for competition in a different area (of G.B.) each year. Usually, the
association awards the competition to a newly formed area, which has found its
feet sufficiently to stage a true competition. As the trophy has moved around
the country over the years, most of the great club names of polo are inscribed
on it. PS: 1958 - 1962: either not awarded or no record available at present. Please contact me if you have more information on this trophy. |
